Amano Shrimp

Caridina multidentata was introduced into the world of aquaria by Takashi Amano in the early 1980s. They are usually used in an aquarium because they feed primarily on algae, thus cleaning the aquarium if in large numbers.

What is the difference between Standard and Grade B?

Our standard Amano are the original form of Caridina multidentata which more or less have a uniform appearance. The standard Amano is difficult to breed under normal water conditions due to their requirement of brackish water. They are recommended for hobbyists who wish to maintain a controlled population of Amano shrimps in the aquarium.

The Grade B is a domestic variant which comes in random transparent shades of clear, blue, green, and brown. This variant of Caridina multidentata is selectively bred with the ability to reproduce under normal water conditions. They are recommended for hobbyists who wish to have a growing population of Amano shrimps in an aquarium with excessive algae issues.
